We started Tasman as a family-owned business in 1953, and we’ve earned our expertise through the consistent and meticulous care we put into every stage of the production journey.
From the banks of the Whanganui River
Whanganui translates to “big bay” in Te Reo Māori, the Māori language. Our tannery sits on the banks of the Whanganui river which flows out into the Tasman Sea. This river is special - in 2017 it was the world’s second natural resource to be given its own legal identity. The character and presence of this mighty river defines our small city as a vibrant, creative and innovative community and fosters our appreciation and respect for nature.
